The numerous islands and relatively shallow seas between Flores and the coast West Komodo average current very rapid changes in tide, especially when tidal waters higher in the Pacific flows north across the Indian Ocean to the south. The upwelling of deep seas surrounding bring nutrients and plankton to keep the waters of Komodo rich and well fed.

Unlike other parts of Indonesia, the reefs around the southern islands suffered damage relatively some fishing with dynamite. Much of the area is now in protecting the national park. The shallow reefs between Flores and the northern region however, were bombed in the past but are now recovering their former glory. The affected area covers about 15% of the archipelago, and even here, steep drops and current swept points offer excellent diving Komodo.

The island is also famous for its dragon Komodo Dragon, the largest lizards in the world. A predator alert and agile treasure that can reach 2.5 meters in length and 125 kg, they are known locally as 'Ora' about 1100 and now inhabit the island and about half living on the nearby island of Rinca.

Redang Island, Pulau Redang is called in the local language, is located 45 km offshore of Terengganu, a state in the north-eastern peninsula of Malaysia. The size of the island, about 7 km long and 6 meters wide, is low. Together with other islands, Pulau Pinang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Susu Dara, Pulau Lang Tengah and Pulau Kapas, this group of islands that form the Pulau Redang Marine Park, which is wonderful abundant marine fish, turtles and coral reef offers great snorkelling and diving experience. There are over 500 species of live coral, 1000 species invertebrates and almost 3000 species of fish, including manta rays, rays, sharks and whale sharks, all living harmoniously in the reefs fringing islands.

Redang Island is famous for its white sand beaches, Crystal clear blue sea, brilliant underwater world has one of the best coral reefs in the world. With over 20 different dive sites, is a haven of peace for the and amateur photographers of scuba diving. Some of them are black coral gardens, shipwrecks near Pinang Island, a subterranean chamber, mysterious and Mini Mount.

Redang season Diving begins around March and lasts until early October. The daily temperature ranges from 22 º C night at 34oC at noon. Visibiity average is 15 meters. On good days, you can give up to 30 meters. Some of the favorite dive sites are:

Monte Major

scuba diving?

i've seen on tv and stuff ppl go diving with just snorkels, but they take the snorkels underwater. do they have somekinda special snorkel that holds oxygen or sumthin or what. plz help me i want to go scuba diving soon as a beginner but i need info.

Scuba diving is awesome! u only need the snorkel if u wanna quicly jump in the water, like if you saw a pod of dolphins on the way back to shore in the boat u could just ask the boat to stop and go snorkel with the dolphins. i leave mine in the boat as it is a hastle to dive with it.

The Indonesian island of Bali is still attracts millions of tourists each year. The divers have a great experience that the current can be very strong. However, diving here can be very exciting, because in reefs along the coast, slopes or uneven reef diving and majestic wall. Water visibility can be regarded as average to good. To add a final touch, these dive sites are one of the best hard coral communities in Bali.

does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure my dive and freefall gear away from home as well as?

I want to insure my diving gear and skydiving gear in my contents insrance but also want it covred in the car and when i am away with it on the boat etc.

You'll need to get separate diving equipment insurance. Because of the replacement value of your kit, it wouldn't be covered on your contents insurance, unless you increased the accidental damage cover. Even so, you would have to check the small print to see if diving gear would/could be covered.

How do you do a flip turn with a snorkel so you don't choke on the incoming water?

I am talking about when swimming laps with the snorkel. I have trouble once doing my flip turn expelling the water that enters my snorkel. If any one has any tips of what to do before, during, and/or after flip turning with the snorkel that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you don't mind the colder temperatures, I feel that diving the coast of Southern California is some of the best in the world. In addition, that period of time is some of the warmest in the Southern California waters. The kelp forests are suburb, the amount of sea life is astounding, and before the winter storms hit ,the visibility can be outstanding. The fish are not as colorful as in say Hawaii, but that is made up for by the sheer magnitude of numbers you will find in the kelp. Just imagine being able to dive in a large forest from the floor of the forest to the tree tops and that is what it is like to dive in a kelp forest. The sunlight filters down the same way and you will never find anything like it anywhere else. I do recommend, going with a group or person who can instruct on how to dive in the kelp. There is a technique all to itself, but you will have a great time. The link at the bottom has a couple of pictures of diving in a kelp forest.

Depends what kind of diving you are doing and where you will be diving. I would never buy a black silicone mask unless I was into underwater photography. Having the silicone rubber all black will cut out lots of light from the water and reduce your visibility, which is perfect if you are a serious photographer but a disadvantage if you're not. Plus other divers will snigger at you as they look like gimp masks.

The fins look quite short, if you have powerful legs and a strong fin kick these will be fine, if you don't, longer fins will give you more propulsion through the water - not too long though or they'll make your legs ache.

The snorkel doesn't look like it has a purge valve, which is a one way valve at the bottom of the J which you can blow excess water out of, these are much easier to use than normal J shape snorkels.

As for the boots....... If you are diving from the shore where you will have to walk over rocks etc. they would be just the job. They look better for walking in than diving, if they are not flexible they will seriously hurt your ankles while you are finning. Iif you're diving from a boat or shore diving on sandy and gravelly surfaces the boots at the bottom of the page with the mask snorkel and fins will be perfect.

The gear looks good but it's expensive and you can get better for your money. You are better off visiting a dive shop where you can try the gear on before buying. Mares are one of the best makes of fins on the market. Clear silicon masks will give you more visibility and it's essential you try before you buy to find the best fit for your face shape. To test the mask fold the strap in front of it, put the mask up to your face ensuring your hair isn't trapped under it then breathe in through your nose, a good mask fit will stick to your face in this position only coming off when you breathe out. Check the bit below your nose doesn't sit low on your lip or it will leak when you hold the regulator in your mouth as it will break the seal.

Do you remember a magazine photo of dozens of younger nudists sunning, diving at a quarry?

This double page color photo was published in a magazine (Life? Time? Playboy?) in the 1970s (or maybe late 60s), possibly during the hippie era. It shows dozens of naked people in late teens / early 20s enjoying a sunny day at a steep-walled quarry. They are spaced around the quarry sitting individually or in small groups on rock outcroppings at different levels. A few are seen diving into the water below. This photo resonated strongly with me at the time -- I wished I could have been there -- and it's stuck in my mind ever since. I'd like to find a back copy of the issue in which the photo appeared. Thanks for any help.

Boracay is a tropical island located 200 miles (315 kilometers) south of Manila, the Philippine capital. Crocodile Island is also home to some groups of sea snakes, some up to two meters (6.5 feet) long. Divers have to be careful of sea snakes, because all sea snakes are poisonous and their bites result in fatality.

Divers can also find large colorful sponges and huge gorgonian sea fans here.

At the northern tip of Boracay is a dive site known asYapak. It is a deep wall instead of diving to about 30m (95ft) and descend to the depth of 60 m (190 ft). Once again, the current can be very strong. Divers are large pelagics here, as barracudas and various species of sharks.

Hammerhead sharks and giant manta rays are the main attractions during dives Yapak. Other excellent dive sites around Boracay Carabao (Buffalo), Cathedral Cave, Buruanga, Black Rock and Dog Drift. No wonder why Boracay is consistently regarded as one of the best site for scuba diving in the world?

Scuba tanks have regular air. The only difference is that before the air is compressed, it filtered and all moisture removed to prevent corrosion of the tanks.

For all intents and purposes your percentages are correct.. 21% oxygen, 78% Nitrogen and 1% traces of other gases.

Some scuba tanks can have a special mixture called Trimix or Nitrox.

Trimix is a mixture of Helium, Oxygen and Nitrogen. The inert Helium is added to prevent buildup pf Nitrogen in the tissues, causing DCS (bends). Oxygen levels can be dropped depending on the depth of the dive, as the partial pressure of oxygen is higher, at greater depth less oxygen is required.

Nitrox, also called EAN X (X is a percentage number usually between 32 and 50), is a nitrogen and oxygen blend with more of the oxygen. This gas can give higher bottom time, reducung nitrogen loading in body tissues. The higher oxygen level limits the depths the gas can be used at.

how far can a diver, using a snorkel for breathing, can swim in salt water?

The human lungs can function satisfactory up to a limit where the pressure difference between the outside and inside of the lungs is one-twentieth of an atmosphere, if a diver uses a snorkel for breathing, how far below the water can she swim? Assume the diver is in salt water whose density is 1025kg/m^3.

it all depends on the Persons Lung Capacity
but as u get deeper under water the preasure from the water on your lungs causes ur lungs to become smaller and also compresses the air that is in ur lungs so the deeper u go the less Oxygen u will have in ur lungs

in Salt water the Pressure is alot Greater as U get deeper compared to when you in Fresh Water

also considering that when you use a snorkel you are also not taking in a full breath of air as there is still a remainder of carbon dioxide in the snorkel Tube itself so it would actually be better to take a proper breath than to breath through a Snorkel
