What is a good diving computer?

I am in the market for a new diving computer. I am a recreational diver with an Advanced Open Water PADI certificate. I am in the market for an entry left diving computer that can read Nitrox levels, has decent features, easy to read display and simple to use underwater.

I have a Suunto Gekko, which does everything you asked for. It will even download your dives to a PC, with a very slight programming modification.

A Scuba diving computer can be a divers best friend. You will be allowed to stay longer if out of the dive tables. There are many types and / or styles of computers Diving can be chosen. What is the best is really personal preference and adapts to the form of diving. The following are some of the choices you have when purchasing your dive gear.

Console Dive Computer

A dive computer console is connected to other computers through a hose. Console dive computers typically come with a pressure gauge. The readings are typically larger than in a dive computer wrist so that also it may be easier on the eyes.

There are also options for a scuba diving equipment to be mounted on your hose (this is the guy who currently use) or clamp on the CB. Choose whichever is most comfortable for you and fits within your price range.

Wrist Dive Computer

The dive computer wrist is very popular. These types of large clocks and computers appear to be worn on the wrist. They will tell you everything you need to know at a glance. Some teams wrist diving are also capable of being mounted on a console.

With Nitrox diving increasingly common, so are the teams that nitrox compatible. Even if you are not diving with Nitrox now, if you are thinking, even diving with Nitrox in the future, is probably worth buying a dive computer with Nitrox. This will save the expense of buying a new computer in the future. However, if I do not think ever diving with Nitrox, then there is no reason to pay by this feature. A standard air computer is probably less than your $ 100 + nitrox counterpart.

Hoseless dive computer

Diving hoseless team consists of the receiver (typically worn on the wrist or mounted on the AC) and a transmitor. If I have a 80 cu ft 3000psi scuba tank and I use to fill a 72 cu in 3000 psi tank what is left in the scuba?

I bought a 80 cubic foot 3000 psi aluminum scuba tank and I'm going to use it to fill a 72 cubic inch tank for paintball gun. After filling the smaller tank one time how much pressure should be in each of the tanks? I am using a device that will allow the pressure in each to equalize which will fill the smaller tank.

Starting with the math:

An 80 Cft tank would be 12 x 12 x 80 = 11,520 Cubic Inches. If you multiply that by 3000 psi, you get 34,560,000.

The new combined volume the gas will occupy is 11,592 (11520 plus 72) . So, 34,560,000 divided by 11,592 means that each tank will be about 2981 psi.

That is the theory -- the actual will be somewhat different. Why? As you transfer the gas, the temp in both containers will change and that will change pressures. Second, the hose will contain some gas and, after you equalize pressure in both cylinders, you will clsoe them leaving a pressurized fill hose. You will then ven some of that air.

All of that said:
a) Be certain the 72 inch cylinder is rated to at least 72 psi, that it is within hydro, has been inspected and is in very good condition (i.e., nothing other than purely cosmetic issues). Verify that the fill rate you are considering does not exceed the manufacturer specs.
b) Fill the tank super slowly. I would probably do that by hooking the two to the hose. Open the big tank but keep the small tank closed. Close the big tank. Slowly open the small tank. This will let some of the air in the hose into the small tank. Close the small tank. Repeat as needed.
c) Ideally, keep the small tank submerged in a container of water. This will help keep it cool.
d) Exploding scuba tanks can be lethal -- this is not something to fool around with.

Most people know what a scuba tank seems, but few people really know what exactly or how to use. If you are interested about diving, but do not really know much about this essential piece of equipment high, you may want to keep reading.

Most people think tank scuba diving contains pure oxygen, but in reality it is not. A scuba tank is actually about 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen, which is quite like the air we breathe. In fact, if the scuba diving tank is filled with pure oxygen, which is toxic when brought to shallow depths. And therefore to leisure travel, the compressed air necessary.

The typical recreational scuba diving tank is usually aluminum, with nearly 80 cubic feet of compressed air. A scuba diving tank normally is two meters tall with a diameter of 1 / 2 foot. Normally, scuba diving tanks are filled with a minimum of 2000 psi and most of the 3000 psi of gas pressure. To maintain quality standards, scuba diving tanks are monitored by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Using a scuba tank is not that difficult, here are some reminders:

1. I have the scuba tank filled by a reputable dive shop.
2. Check if the compressor intake pipe of the store is located in an area of clear and fresh air. Select another store if they are placed somewhere fumes could enter inside the pump.
3. Never leave the scuba diving tank inside a parked car as the heat may cause it to expand and explode.
4. When traveling, store the tank in the trunk of the car, with the valve to the passengers. In the event that the valve damage, the tank will be propelled away from passengers.
5. Before using the tank, remove the protective rubber valve and check O-ring. If damaged or missing, replace it.
6. Attach a buoyancy compensator in the body of the tank.
7. Attach the first stage of your regulator valve tank scuba diving.
8. Turn left knob to open the valve and then replace the back half.
9. Take note of the tank pressure monitoring indicators.
10. As you dive, always check the air pressure left in the tank.
11. Stop scuba diving way beyond the minimum point of pressure in the tank.
12. After snorkeling, remove all accessories of the tank and store in a cool place.

What will happen if you don't keep exhaling if u lose ur second stage regulator?

I am gonna learn to scuba dive at Mermet Springs (Southern Illinois) this July and i was reading my OPEN WATER DIVER workbook and I saw that you shouldn't hold ur breath and I was just wondering why? will ur lungs explode or sumthing?

As you will learn in your SCUBA class, if you ascend while holding your breath you could suffer a lung over expansion injury which can be fatal. Your lungs don't 'explode', but air is forced into your tissues and blood stream which can cause an embolis that can cause a heart attack or stroke. That is why you are taught to aways exhale when the regulator is out of your mouth. You will also about how, due to the equal pressure of air in lungs at a given depth that you can indeed exhale all the way to the surface and still have plenty of air in your lungs. This is known as an emmergency swimming ascent.

Second Trimester of Pregnancy Week by Week events

Here's a guide to keep pace with changes taking place in your body, in the second trimester of pregnancy week by week.

The second trimester lasts from week 14 to week 26.

Week 14
Your baby is 2 ounces. It has small arms and legs and a prominent beat. You must have a lot of fiber in their diet to combat the problem of constipation, which is common in this week of pregnancy.

From week 15

Your baby has become hairy! The hair helps regulate the temperature during delivery. Her abdomen becomes large due to the increase in the size of the uterus. Time to go for prenatal care up to ensure that your baby is developing properly.

Of Week 16

Your baby has become active. Start kicking and twisting. Her abdomen will become heavier as the baby grows. At this stage, there is little development. If they are twins, which can find swelling of the feet due to edema.

The 22 th week
Your baby's brain and sex organs are in the process development. All other organs are fully developed. You may experience back pain due to pressure from the growing baby.

The 23rd Week
Your baby is hyperactive in this phase. You should be alert for preterm delivery. Beware of bleeding, spotting, and contractions.

24 weeks
You should go for a prenatal checkup to rule out gestational diabetes.

25 weeks
Your baby begins to develop the arteries and veins, and spine. Your back pain may get serious.

Week 26

Respiratory System the baby has fully developed yet. You are about to approach the third stage, also known as the stage of gestation of the baby.

Scuba octopus?

What is the difference between a regulator and an octaopus.
What exactly is an octopus

An octo IS a regulator. There are two types or regulators on a typical scuba rig. Your first stage reg that is attached to your tank valve. From this first stage, there are hoses leading to your primary breathing second stage reg and your Octo second stage. The job of the first stage is to bring that possibly 3,000 psi air in the tank, down to a more reasonable pressure of about 150 psi. From there, the air goes to the second stages and can be reduced down further by these second stage, on demand (meaning it delivers air when you inhale and stops when you finnish inhaling), regs.
The Octo is a second stage back up for a buddy that is out of air or if your own primary second stage ( the one you normally breathe from) is no longer functioning. Octos are generally ( not always) a cheaper reg, that may not have all the bells and whistles that a primary air source does. It's there for an emergency, so ease of breathing under load and tuning adjustments are minor. It gives you air when you're in a pinch, thats the important thing.

what does the purge buttton in a scuba purge, water or exhaust?

why is it important to purge always prior to taking the first breath?

-The purge button on the second stage of the regulator (the first stage is the one connected to the valve of the cylinder) has the function,when pressed,to blow out the water from the second stage,allowing you to breath the air that can flows in it.
-The other system to clean the second stage from water ( if your lungs are filled with air) is to blow air in it,before to try to breath.

Both the systems are valid,while you are diving,in order to purge the second stage.
Note :when the mouth piece of it is not in your mouth,water enters from there in the second stage.
-Pressing the button,or blowing out air in it,from your lungs,creates the opening of a valve on the base of the second stage, and the exit of the water from there.
At that point you can breath safely.
When you exale air , it will escape from the second stage from the same very valve.

-Another use of this button ,is to allow you to check (pressing it) if the valve of the air is opened and the device functioning. But the best test,is to have the mouth piece in the mouth,and trying to breath.The air should flow in your mouth without efforts.

A typical regulator assembly will have the following:

--First stage that attaches to the tank.
--Primary second stage on a hose. This is what the diver puts in his/her mouth.
--Alternate (or octopus) second stage. This is for your buddy's use in case he/she runs out of air.
--Low pressure inflator hose that connects to the BCD.
--High pressure hose that connects to a pressure gauge.

The word "regulator" sometimes means the entire assembly or the primary second stage. Octo or octopus always refers to the alternate second stage.

Each morning during the course of an hour, I am immersed in water. For an hour, I meditate to Holosync sounds of rain, water, waves, liquid drum that rolls beyond the impulse to a deeper source. Somehow during this time, my breathing becomes more educated, more regulated, more trained, like a pair of legs that dance has found the pace to last and could well afford to be caught by a larger, deeper power.

Each morning I sit in the water, I expect to be taken and I am rarely disappointed. The interesting thing is that after almost 6 months of daily meditation, sounds of water (I only missed 2 sessions), my whole body was prepared to take before I put on my headphones. And the catch is like a big plunge into the layers of self, except that this self - (for lack of a better image) is like a giant octopus in the depths of the oceans. All my tentacles are veering wildly far from the center and yet I can feel their rhythm perfectly in the center, all the incongruities make sense ultimately in the center. Although difficult to say what this image means, but it is the most viable description of how I feel at the end of the day, a dancer reconciled with new beginnings, UN-step choreography, a dancer of reflection on the art of ballet slippers. This is a very subtle process - the growing sense of interdependence, the deep feeling that even the most perverse has its roots in the more plausible. I am an octopus trying to go in 20 different directions, feeling the pull out - Inward, a sense of peace in the swirl of softness in the cacophony.

After the tapes, I get up in the morning and falls miraculously place: your e-mail, every phone call is set up as a dance scripted. I am focused at work, in my writing. Opportunities place before me. Words that I had struggled before making the right sound perfect in their resistance. All is not melodic, but all that emerges is the poetry-raw cacophonous, not fully understood, nor entirely consistent, but perfectly in tune.

When I encountered something that previously would I could tear, I looked impassive. I began increasingly to see the impasse as part of the puzzle whose beauty is only the last part does is not the end but the beginning.

I am less interested in the search for ultimate truth justifies all, but more and more happy with a million truths that fill every space and the fragment of time. And the irony is that this cacophony somehow makes me whole I am more than one. What is the best way to store a SCUBA Buoyancy Compensator Device for several months?

For the first time, I used my own personally owned SCUBA gear to dive. I was diving for several weeks in salt water, and then returned home. I probably will not be diving again for several months, how should I store my BC and reg?

As soon as possible after leaving salt water you ought to have thoroughly rinsed it with fresh water. That's rule #1 with any dive gear when used in salt. These are usually detuned regulators, so they have a smaller chance at free flowing at depth.

Many are the same regulator as a normal second stage regulator, just with the detuning above. Some are specifically designed to be an octo.

Just to clarify, you first stage regulator is attached to your tank. Your second stage regulator is your primary breathing regulator. The octo is also called the "safe second" stage, to be used in an emergency.

How can I make songs go into the second stage of Stepmania?

Lets say I play a song, but it says that the certain song has 2/3 stages, right. Well, when I finish the first stage, I go back to the menu, but everything is in roulette, there are no songs.

You could also increase the number of stages via the options menu. So, if you want to be able to play two long-length songs in a single game, you could increase the length of a game to 4 rounds. Similarly, if you want to play two marathon-length songs in a single game, you could increase the length of a game to 6 rounds.

I'd still recommend event mode though.

You can adjust this in the "Songs per Play" option in "Coin Options"

Do you need different equipment if you want to go cold-water scuba diving?

As opposed to warm water scuba diving, is cold water diving distinctly different when it comes to equipment? Other than maybe a thicker wetsuit, are there differences in equipment or the way you should shop for equipment?

1. Thicker wetsuit or even a drysuit.
2. You'll need booties as well. This full foot-pocket fins would leave your feet exposed.
3. Thicker gloves. Those reef gloves are only good for guarding against cuts and such. They don't offer much in the way of thermal protection.

Buying a wetsuit can be somewhat confusing. There are many different styles, thicknesses, qualities and prices to choose from.

Trying on a wetsuit is not the more fun to do in the world either. However, it is a necessary evil if you want to keep the heat on the dive.

So with that in mind, here are the items you should look for when buying a wetsuit:

* Style - You will first need to decide is what style of suit you want.

Want a full wet suit or a shortie (has short arms (usually) and legs that end just above the knee)? Want a Farmer John or Jane (suit two pieces - one piece has long legs with a sleeveless top, which is usually used with a coat of government)? Do you need a hood?

A shortie is for warm water diving and is what I wear when I need you more than a skin (mine is 2 mm). Allow your arms and legs exposed to water so you have to decide whether it's hot enough for you.

A full scuba diving wet suit is probably the most common / popular and is what I see, while the majority of diving in the Caribbean. This style is one piece and has long arms and legs.

Buying a suit hood is not necessary (for most people) for diving in warm water. It's more for cold water diving. I can count on one hand the number of people I've seen wear a hood, while the diving in the Caribbean.

* Thickness - The thickness is probably the most important factor that will determine your comfort underwater. Choose the thickness depending on the type of water and diving you will do. For the Caribbean, 3mm should be sufficient for most people.

* Quality of Construction - This is a piece of tape attached adhesive on the seams that will help with comfort. While it is convenient, it is likely to give the fastest of all the seams.

Another of the basics of mainly located in the "negotiation" and "cheap" wetsuit is excessive locking point that joins a neoprene seam by sewing the edges together. Yes, there should be an O-ring. I would go back to where you bought it, and request a new inflator hose with an O-ring.

If you bought it online, good luck. If you don't have any luck if you purchased it online, head to a dive shop and they should have an O-ring to fit it. The thread size is typical on the inflator hoses, so they should have extras.

The underwater world is a completely different landscape. In Crystal clear dive sites in water such as that of Sipadan and the surrounding sites, you can see a lot of life macro you do not see on earth. The fans, corals and rock formations are completely different landscape. The colors are a kaleidoscope of a wide range of combinations of colors than the rainbow. You've heard of color therapy and I can understand why divers often return very relaxed and calm.

Also, it seems that divers tend to have better observations and it is a good habit to cultivate on land. Others said we must be extra careful for two reasons. One, if you do not want to miss the details, especially the macro world, you must keep your eyes wide open closed but not be alert to observe all motion. Some of these fish as crocodile fish, stone fish are master of disguise and if you're not careful, you could miss them. For reason number two in the underwater world, you must be very careful not to confuse the fish for a rock or coral. Should you not inadvertently touch on one or one, you will have the anguish and pain of the worst cases, the toxin can be fatal if treatment is not at hand. But the benefits and learning out-weighs the dangers and if you're cautious diver, it is fun and healthy for your mind and body.

Diving is ideal for motor coordination of limbs and body. And because water has inflatable body weight is supported by water and you feel much less weight in water. This gives you plenty of agility in the water on earth and we find that divers tend to have great skills. Breathing is great for divers, and they must learn to breathe properly with the oxygen tank. Overall, the diving is excellent exercise for the body, ideal for the mind and soul and great to know.

Well Shane, there is a little difference between a 'safe 2nd' and a normal 2nd stage regulator. The 'octopus' usually has a longer hose.

However, most of the price difference that you are seeing is the fact that the first regulator includes the 1st and 2nd stage portions. The 'octopus' part of the regulator, a 2nd '2nd stage' as it were, is only half of what you need to breath with. You could buy two 'octopi' if you wanted to, but that would still leave you without the ability to breath underwater. You need the 1st stage too, and when you add that in you might as well get the normal set of 1st and 2nd stages, which are usually designed to work well together.

The first stage is the small, usually silver metal piece which connects directly to the valve of the tank. "The first stage of the regulator is usually designed to release the gas at a constant rate from the cylinder despite the pressure in the cylinder becoming less as the gas in the cylinder is used."

The second stage, with the mouthpiece attached, is at the end of a flexible hose. This is a demand valve, and allows you to take air from the tank only when you need to inhale. Otherwise the air would flow constantly and you'd have like 5 minutes underwater instead of 50 minutes or more.
