why is my dry snorkel allowing water into the mouthpiece?

I bought a Body Glove Breathe-Easy dry snorkel and water is coming in through the mouth piece area and it is brand new. I thought this wasn't going to happen.

it is probably the silicone one way valve that has something stuck in it. you can rinze the valve near your mouthpiece well and that might get some sand out thereby giving you the proper seal back. when you snorkel dont snorkel into the sand. all it takes is one tiny granule to get that one way valve leaking. check for any debris around the valve. wash it well and try the snorkel in a pool.

$300.00 for viper fins, ion3 mask and ultra dry snorkel? That is a bit steep considering that according to the Oceanic website the manufacturer suggested retail price for those three items totals $219.85.

It is important that the mask does fit properly. The Ion3 mask is a bit narrower with regard to the mask skirt and I would say that it leans a bit more toward narrow yo average size faces. The three windows do allow for a bit more peripheral vision and light penetration. The single front lens does offer a decent field of vision as well. The ultra dry snorkel is one of the best dry snorkels that I have used (yes I use a snorkel every time I dive). I had to loan it to a divemaster in Belize when he had to chase down our dive boat when it broke away from it's mooring line (The crew member back on the boat couldn't get it started). Where is the best place to purchase snorkeling gear?

I;m going to Maui in May with my family and I want to purchase professional type, or close to it, just great quality in general snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, and fin set) for a great price (preferibly $30 each set)... is there any brand or website you would recommend buying from that i can get such a deal ir is it unrealistic?

the term "professional" usually means you are going to spend much more than $30 each.
Go for a good mask at least. Visit a local scuba shop and have them let you try on a variety for fit. When you snorkel, do not use any lotion or make-up at all. Your face should be completely clean. Any products will break the mask seal and cause major flooding of your mask.

Any snorkel will do in a pinch. My favorite is the Ocean Master Dry Snorkel but it's a little spendy ($40-$50), but it's un-floodable so it's great for beginners.

Any fins will get you moving. The more you spend the more you move. My fins were $250. Cheap ones will still work, just not as efficiently or comfortably.

It was late November and we approached our chosen anchorage, Shark River, located on the west coast of Florida. The sea was calm, the weather was clear and had been very nice and warm all day. Can I add a drytop attachement to my snorkel?

Does anybody know if I can purchase a separate dry-top attachement for my snorkel? I have a Speedo Condor snorkeling set but the snorkel is labeled "splash proof dry top" which means I cannot dive under water as it does not completely keep water out. I would like to change just the top of the snorkel and replace with a dry-top one, as I am very happy with the mask and how it fits. Is that possible?

Why do you want to keep water out of the snorkel? Mine just fills with water and then I blow it out when I surface. it's a bit risky, in my personal view, to try to keep water out because it will be a shock if any does get in and you won't be prepared for it. get used to water being in the snorkel when you submerge, and it will become second nature to clear it when you surface.

PLEASE HELP! A basic snorkeling question...

I am looking to buy a basic snorkel/mask/fins kit just for me and my girlfriend. I would like to get a fairly cheap one that contains a dry snorkel that actually works. Any suggestions on a deal that gives you bang for your buck? I don't might risking an online buy. if it doesn't fit me I'll give it to one of my friends.

Who does not want to explore the world under the sea? Mankind has always been fascinated with underwater life. Because of this great fascination, extensive research and surprising inventions have given us the opportunity to breathe underwater so you can watch or just have fun in dealing with aquatic animals.

However, respiration under water is not simply carry a full tank of air with you when diving. There are many things you need to consider. Staying underwater is totally different from life on earth.

On one hand, humans do not have gills that can extract oxygen from water. Air pressure is also significantly different pressure water. The human body is not adapted to changes in pressure. Control their buoyancy and avoid losing body heat when under water are also important considerations.

Fortunately, probably everything a diver needs to safely explore the depths of the ocean is available. There's the mask, snorkel, fins, regulators and wetsuits to name a few. These devices allow the diver to breathe, control of position and stay under the hot water.

To breathe underwater, a diver wearing a metal tank filled with compressed air. A regulator is attached to this tank, which adjusts the air pressure to match the surrounding so that the diver can breathe comfortably. The regulator delivers air through a mouthpiece that the diver used to inhale and exhale. Breathe through your mouth is natural, so no need to add that to their concerns.

Another hose is connected to a regulator to control the buoyancy of the diver. It is attached to an air bladder adjustable. Since the diver takes this as a vest, the addition of air in it would make him more buoyant and therefore rises. When released to air, the opposite happens.

These jackets also help a diver to achieve neutral buoyancy. When you are in a neutral buoyancy, you can stay at a constant depth without much effort. This minimizes gas consumption due to swimming.

The divers also wear lead weights as a belt so they can go down and stay underwater. The weights are equal to time to achieve the right balance. During emergency situations, a diver can just quickly release these belts to match surface.

A wetsuit is really incredible. It is made of compressible substance, therefore, when it descends, the volume is reduced, and when rises, it expands. They are very useful in controlling buoyancy conveniently one.

An application can also provide thermal insulation. A wetsuit, for example, neoprene is often has a poor thermal conductivity, which minimizes heat loss to the surrounding water.

Another way to meet a driver can reduce heat loss is by trapping a layer of water between the suit and the human skin. The suit is very well sealed in the neck, wrist and legs therefore the water flow is reduced. This technique in reducing heat loss is known as convection, which is the same principle used in the concept of semi-dry.

A dry suit keeps the diver also dry, as it is made of a wetsuit. Ice water could not penetrate a dry suit. Preferably, dry suit underwear are also used for better insulation. A dry suit keeps layers of air inside that helps keep a diver warm.

Of course, in order better acquainted with these diving gear would be better if you get a certification from a diving course. In this course, you not only learn about these teams, also teaches diving suit.

During the course, students learn how to dive neutral buoyancy. Through various exercises, swimming, will learn to control your breathing. A diver should know how to breathe slowly but continuously.

At the end of the course, hope to learn some procedures safety in diving, for example, how to clear your mask if in case of leakage of water, avoiding collisions and underwater, of course, learn how to help a fellow diver in need. Conventional hand signals are used to communicate underwater divers since they have no other way to talk to each other.

As a certified diver, can fill your air tanks, buy scuba diving equipment and dive all over the world. Dive businesses require this certification as proof that you may well address itself underwater.

What do I need for spearfishing?

So I would like to take up spearfishing/ skindiving as a hobby. Problem is I live in the dry^10 state of Arizona so I plan on going to San Diego or Rocky Point as often as I can to do it probably 3-5 times year and when I travel to wetter places ie Cabo Cancun Belize Florida etc etc. Budget is limited so everything will be bought in phases according to necessity. So minus the mask and snorkel and speargun what other quintessential things do I absolutely need?

Spearfishing is a wonderful sport, am asuming you will be breath holding so you wont need any scuba gear, a good fishing buddy would be your best bet.
Your mask should be a low volume one, long freediving fins,large bore snorkel,speargun size and strengh should be acording to species or other factors, you will need thermal protection acording to water temperature, knife ,gloves,booties, knowledge of diferent fish species, diferent fish and fishing laws, pacific or Atlantic ocean,SAFETY ,it might sound complicated but it all adds to the fun, spearfishing is not all about fishing, there is so much about it thats an incredible adventure, plus the fresh fish for dinner bonus, dont forget to learn to cook your own fish.
