Diving Dive Computer
While Scuba diving with your buddy - can you share a single dive computer? Or do you both need one?

I would like to know if i need to go through the extra expense of buying a second one for my wife. They are very expensive. Surely using the dive tables and a single computer is ok? Or is this not recommended? Or is it a definite no-no?

There's a problem doing this. Suppose you and your buddy are temporarily separated and they pop an additional 10 feet deeper for a bit. Your dive profiles are no longer the same. What the computer tells you is now only valid for the diver wearing the computer. The other diver is on their own and had better be keeping track of their profile during the entire dive and have their tables with them.
If on the other hand...your buddy is glued to you at the hip you can get away with it but is that still manageable risk? That's where this becomes your call. There's pros and cons either way. I prefer that both divers have a computer simply because that certainly is safer and Murphy and his law always seem to target the unprepared. It just adds a bit more expense for you. For myself it's worth that expense.

"There are too many things to learn!" "Everything changes so fast!" "I do not understand!"

These are common responses to the enormous challenge of learning to use a personal computer. The volume of information, the pace of change and language Technical intimidation can make learning about computers seem like an unattainable and unrealistic goal.

However, with the good strategy, learning about computers should not be impossible. Your first goal should be challenging but not overwhelming. If you stay in your comfort zone, you will not advance, but if you set goals you can not reach, you'll quickly become discouraged. In reaching some success early, you'll be more motivated to challenge yourself to learn faster. This will also make learning fun about computers, which will keep your motivation high.

After you reach your goal - and more! -- Take a little time to celebrate your success. Brag for a friend or family member. Give yourself a reward for overcoming any fear, doubt and uncertainty which accompanies the struggle against such a daunting task. Once you've tasted a little success and get your feet wet, you'll have a much more clear what you want and need to learn. If you learned how to run your three favorite programs, you may realize that you really want or need to control One of these programs. If your goal is to use another free computer learning courses, you may soon realize that you need to understand features and functionality of a specific site. Although it is tempting at this point plunge and learn everything must learn to resist that temptation, or you risk becoming obsolete. Remember to read the sections of the website that will teach you how to use the site correctly. You can often find in these sections as FAQ, how it works and Getting Started.

To keep learning on track, identify your ultimate goal, then break that into smaller steps and goals to get you there. Once you've broken your final goal in a collection of small bites skills to learn, make sure to assign dates to each of them so you have a timeline to work with. Again, it important to address, but does not set deadlines that are so aggressive they seem unrealistic. Once you know all the things you need to learn and how quickly it is simply a question of finding resources for learning about computers, exploring the Internet, bookstores, libraries and options in the classroom, such as local community colleges. Most of these courses you can learn at your own pace and give you a very good start to learning computers with little or no financial obligation. With a little research, you can find a computer online reputable courses learning and on your way to materialize your goals for computer learning in no time.

Tackling the gigantic enterprise of learning to use your computer can be overwhelming. However, breaking it down into manageable tasks and set your own pace for learning, you will be a computer guru in your own terms at any time.

Dive Computer Transmitter

What are the pro's and cons of my current SCUBA setup?

I am currently diving with a Ladyhawk, air-integrated BC (scubapro), with an S600 reg.
I also have an OC1 computer (lucky me!), but with no transmitter.

That sounds like a really nice rig to me. I have an Oceanic Chute 2 BC which has a similar back-flotation configuration and I like it. I use an Oceanic DataMax Pro Plus computer and I like it a lot too. It's hose-mounted, not wrist-mounted like yours. I like the way it shows the remaining bottom time based on either nitrogen loading or remaining air and consumption rate, whichever is lower. It's nice to know that I'll get a warning if I get close to the limit on either of those, but of course as long as I watch my depth and air consumption, I'm generally on the way back to the boat before I get close to either limit. Still, I like having that added protection in case I get distracted. If you dive a lot, you might want to consider getting the transmitter, because I assume it would give your computer that same functionality.

After had the opportunity to test the beta version of this diving watch, I was impressed in general and neutral in a number of things. If you have poor eyesight, the purity of the device does not lend itself to more readable. I had my mask to squint to see the display in low light. So if you have poor vision, perhaps Oceanic ProPlus II is a better computer for you.
Secondly, the digital compass is a bit difficult (keep in mind this was one demonstration units, and has probably been fixed). Must be flat to announce the measure of degree.
Finally, 5-7mm gloves (we dive into the cold waters of the Pacific), the buttons are somewhat difficult to manipulate, change the setting. In addition, the team is a very sophisticated piece of Technology and a DVD that came with your computer with a step-by-step would be.

Dive Bcd
I'm looking for SCUBA gear (average stuff): BCD,tank,gauges,regulator,weights, maybe even a dive computer?

I need to know where to get the BEST POSSIBLE prices cuz I got my certification recently (I'm 16) and want to carry on diving for studies and leisure. I could buy it in pieces, but want to know where to get the BEST deal. After all, I'm only 16 and can only afford so much at certain times. I know I have enought for all of it put 2gether, but just want to find out where to get it at good quality for as low price as possible. But it has to be good quality. Thanks

Tevasmurf is bang on the money by advising you to steer clear of internet sales. There are a number of issues when dealing with an online retailer as opposed to a local dive shop.
1/ Quality of the gear: It may be a reputable brand, but how do you know you're not getting gear with an issue, be it blemishes or even some damage, that is the reason why they can't sell in person.
2/ Are you actually getting what you're paying for? Counterfeit gear is on the rise. There's good money to be made selling sub standard gear that's fake.
3/ You've snapped a D ring or chest clip. Now what? Are you prepared to send your BC out for a few weeks, paying for shipping costs and the repair? The service is virtually non existent.
4/ Well golly, they advertised that BC as a large but you can't get it on. Not all manufacturers use the same guidelines as to sizing. One's large is another's medium. Now what? It doesn't fit.

Buying from a reputable local shop does a few things in your favor. You get to try it on, try it out, see it and inspect it first hand. You get to compare different manufacturer's gear right then and there. The gear in question will be exactly what you're paying for. The service is right there. Something like a D ring could be fixed in minutes, not weeks and sometimes it's free if you're a regular customer. You're helping to support a local dive shop, keeping money in your community and divers diving. That local shop probably does volunteer work for keeping beaches clean or dive sites safe. You also get to make friends with people that dive from that shop. Instant dive buddies and they live right near by. No searching on the net needed.
If you buy regularly from a shop or make large purchases there, chances are, you can swing some really great deals. I get a 15% discount on anything I buy at my local one, sometimes more.

Scuba Dive Diving

Has anybody used a Citizen Eco-Drive AT0100-51A Professional Dive Watch for Scuba Diving?

I have already purchased this watch and have had it pressure tested and field tested on a freshwater scuba dive to 85 feet in Lake Michigan. It passed both the test at the jeweler and at the bottom of the freezing lake at a temperature of only 41 F. This is one bad mother funkin watch for scuba diving...however its name can be misleading. The citizen watch company recommends that this particular model watch only be used for free diving and not be used for scuba diving. It is depth rated to 200 meters or 660 feet which is really really deep. Has anybody had any problems scuba diving with this watch? I am convinced that it will continue to hold but I want to do a little Q & A here so fill me in. Thanks all.

I haven't used the Eco-Drive, but if they're recommending it for free diving only, I imagine that it's because the eco-drive isn't a full-fledged dive computer like a Suunto, and Citizen wants no confusion in that regard. Your watch should be excellent for diving, just don't expect it to bail you out if your primary dive computer fails! I've been thinking about getting that watch myself- it looks like a good one...

One of the most famous world sites scuba diving is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The Great Barrier Reef, off the coast eastern Australia is the only group of organic life on earth visible from outer space. The other is a man made structure, the Great Wall China.

This reef is considered one of the wonders of the world and was declared world heritage in 1981. It is the largest global ecosystem of coral reefs. Being so big, beautiful dive sites and marine life and beautiful scenery abounds.

Diving Regulator
What is your favorite SCUBA diving regulator and why?

I have tried many different regulators and my favorite of all time is the Dacor Extreme Plus Regulator but I have trouble finding parts to maintain it. I even have the original dive computers on 3 of the 4 Dacor Extreme Plus Regs as back ups since I use different dive computers on each of them.

Dive Computer Nitrox

I need a useful, inexpensive dive computer used (o2/EAN) to use as I finish my certificates. What are my best bets?

No I'm hurting as much money as I want to wait until we know more about diving I'll do before I put a thousand dollars or more in a dive team. I just need a reliable machine to help me log my dives and underwater keep me informed as I finish my diving instructor and instructor certifications. I am certified EAN so I'd like a team that is responsible for air and Nitrox. Looking for the best bang for my money on a cheap, easy to use second-hand model. Thanks to all who reply!

If you go for your Dive Master cert then you should know this. But I'll say it again and first off the bat. They have all the equipment used checked and serviced by a qualified dealer. Note that a computer may be, it is considered life support. If the computer goes blank, it can still breathe. But I do not know the amount of air you have left, depth, etc, unless you have a backup in the tank. Scuba do suggest you visit and check com comments arts. Experienced scuba divers: another question for you, about dive computers!?

How necessary is it to have a dive computer for ocean diving? I'm pretty new at scuba, and the SPG I have is relatively simple with analog gauges.
Thanks for your input!

Computers are really a luxury item. Nice to have but not needed if you know your way around your RDP, have your console and a timer.
You CAN extract a little more bottom time using one and they're great for dives with an up and down profile as they will calculate for you on the fly, so if your plan changes a bit, you're covered. They're also useful in that if you're doing several dives in a day, there's no need to run to your log book before you forget your numbers. Most will log at least 10 separate dives with the times, depths, nitrogen loads, surface intervals and temperatures. Some allow a download to a PC, others will just store 10 dives to memory for later review.

We have all heard the terms "Skin Diving" and "Scuba Diving" and know they are something to do with diving. More specifically, "diving", a "very competitive sport" is "free diving" without the use breathing. The divers use a single breath of air to descend to depths of over 100 million to compete with other diver to reach as deep as possible. With a wide training and yoga a skin divers body reacts like that of "whales and dolphins during a dive skin. The heart rate oxygen decreases and that one lung full of air is concentrated in the heart and brain. A diver is in danger of losing consciousness as he nears the surface after immersion of the skin due to very low oxygen concentration in the brain to reach shallow water. This is called "blackout shallow water.

Diving on the other side is not a competitive sport is now practiced worldwide, not just the athletic young man, but for couples and families as well. Divers descend underwater using breathing apparatus called "diving equipment. Diving word means "Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Too much nitrogen absorbed during the dive, not everything can be reformed gas and exhale while ascending, leaving some in the body as a gas (a bubble). This nitrogen gas bubbles may become lodged in a joint, heart, brain or spine, etc., causing decompression sickness (The Bends). The deeper the immersion can spend less time underwater. It is a time of deep the relationship and dive tables or dive computers are used to calculate the amount of time a diver can spend on each dive. (More information by a PADI Open Water Diver)

I have an old Suunto Eon dive computer and need to replace the hose?

I have an old Suunto Eon dive computer and need to replace the hose? I don't want to pay someone to do it for me, but I also don't know If i need a specific hose. I know it needs to be an HP. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you know how to get the unit off?
Remove the covering, get the 2 spanners (wrenches), undo the union between hose and the computer.
Now take the hose to a dive retailer and compare.
Inside that hose coupling is a swivel (a sleeve with an O ring on each end), get new O rings for it, lube them with scuba grease before reassembly.

I made a presentation on diving at altitude last night and it made me put something about "Tip Sheet" together. Here is a list of tips to remember when diving at altitude.

1. Any dive from 1,000 feet and 10,000 feet, is a diving Altitude

2. There are relatively little test data for diving at altitude, flying after diving or driving to altitude after diving.

3. At the sea, the diver is surrounded by an atmosphere of pressure. At 10,000 feet, the pressure is 714 atmospheres (a decrease of 30% of pressure). This is change itself pressure up to 10 feet of seawater, known makes a big difference in our limits of non-decompression. As we shall see, this must be taken into account when using the RDP or any dive table or dive computer.

4. In addition to decompression sickness, there has heightened concerns of hypoxia and hypothermia when divng altitude.

5. Unless the actual depth is converted into a theoretical to use the depth chart and special procedures are followed, in the altitude pressure ratio may exceed the maximum limit under the table or computer Diving, which increases the possibility of decompression sickness.

6. There are several considerations equipment when diving in elevation: (1) Air trapped inside the cells of a wetsuit, extends to the altitude, possibly making you more buoyant. Make a check of buoyancy. (2) Various gauges act differently to the altitude, the manufacturer of your pattern and know what type of device you have and how it effects altitude. (3) computers automatically adjust for altitude, need to be adjusted altitude manually or with no adjustment to the altitude. Know your computer!

7. When you use RDP or a table plan your dive, see the conversion table depth theoretical and plan your first dive using your depth theoretical not the depth of your workforce. Adjust your safety stop accordingly.

8. Go to a diving depth to an altitude at a rate not exceeding 30 feet per minute. Safety stops is required on all dives.

9. Do not make more than two dives per day Diving altitude.

10. In arriving at altitude, wait 6 hours for your body acclimitize or adjust your dive profiles to account for nitrogen residual in your system as a result of the increasing altitude. During a dive over 8,000 feet, always wait 6 hours.

11. When dynamic graphs and tables, round always conservative - whether up or down.

12. Check with your certifying agency or Divers Alert Network for recommendations on the altitude or flight after diving. It is generally recommended not to increase your altitude over 2,000 feet for a period of 24 hours after diving.

13. Do not make dives at different altitudes. Always wait a minimum of 6 hours during a dive between altitudes.

14. If you're diving at altitude, get adequate training and be certified. The tip sheets and articles found on the Internet can not substitute for training. Dive within your training.

Can you purchase Scuba diving equipment for your own use?

I was wondering if i could buy all of the Scuba Diving equipment for my own use? Do you need a permit? etc?

Yep, you could actually. You could buy just about anything to do with scuba other than a rebreather rig. The kicker is, to use any of it, you need a C card to fill a tank. All those thousands of dollars you spent on gear is pretty pointless unless you can use it with a 10 dollar air fill. No shop will fill a tank without knowing you are a certified diver. The profit simply isn't worth the liability.That simple and a very good control measure. It's worked for years. Greed in this case works well. It costs more to deal with litigation than to skip a C card check.

There is so much equipment diving well on the market, it is difficult to know what to choose, with a variety of masks, fins, BCD, and dive computers that meet almost any diving conditions and budget, it can be difficult to know what equipment to go for. It is important choose equipment that best suits your needs you must consider your dive environments.

If you dive mainly in cold water, you must choose the device that is most appropriate, even if you dive in warm climates again its important to choose the right equipment. The obvious difference between the two would wet your shirt, if you dive in cold conditions, you will need a thick wetsuit or drysuit whereas if the warmer climates of diving you can go out with a thinner suit. As differences in wetsuits there are a number of other considerations must be subordinated to your diving conditions, for example, you should be aware of your dive computer, BCD and fins to ensure they can resist your dives.
