i was asked to research on this gear but i don't know what its called it kinda looks like some sort of gear or screw (it has a couple layers) I know its used to prevent eddy currents.

Can I wear contact lens during scuba diving/snorkelling?

Even if i wear goggles, i still worry if water will get inside my eyes, and pull out my contact lens! Can that really happen when diving? Please advice me. Thanks.

I always dive with my contacts on. I have also swam on many occasions with them underwater and opened my eyes and haven't lost any yet. Of course there is always a chance of loosing them. Or if the water is very murky you probably don't want that on your contacts. For me it works without any probems but I always keep my old pair each month for a spare in case of a mishap.

Camera Underwater Housing
Need help choosing an underwater camera housing for scuba diving?

I am going scuba diving in a month and need to take some underwater photos. I am considering buying a hard plastic case for a digital camera which run around $250. Or I am thinking about trying these soft plastic cases that run around $30. Has anyone used either of these before? Did the photos turn out okay? I will be going in shallow water, probably no deeper than 60 feet. Do you think I need an extra flash to take good pictures?

You get what you pay for. It's your camera. Personally I'd spend whatever it takes to keep that camera safe and able to take decent shots.
As for a flash, you'll probably find that you'll want to put a piece of tape over the flash if there's no option for turning it off. Most of the time, a flash will produce back scatter in images ( looks like a snow storm) as the light from the flash hits suspended particles in the water and bounces back. If your camera and housing allow it, the use of what's called a strobe will be better. It's a type of flash that's mounted and pointed off to the side, reducing back scatter.

What color camera should I get?

I want to get the nikon coolpix l18 but I cant decide weather to get the red or the blue one. which color do you like better for a digital camera?

Neither.

Digital cameras that are the colors of Crayola crayons are so childish, and look like toys. I prefer black or silver, but that's just me. But if I HAD to choose, it'd be red.

How often does an aluminum scuba tank (new) need to be visually inspected?

I bought an aluminum tank last year, and my question is :...does it have to be visually tested every year, even though it is a new tank??

Visual needs to be done once a year. Hydro needs to be done once every 5 years. The date for the visual should be on a sticker on the tank, the hydro date will be stamped into the metal itself.

Most images were produced in black and white for nearly a hundred years after the invention of photography, but now have become a common color. Creating strong three dimensional images on a sheet of paper is one of the greatest strengths of the black and White, as the effect May be more surprising that, with a color photograph. Without color distracting, we become more aware of the subtle tones that found in a black and white. In this article I'll share the technique I use to help you create beautiful images, amazing and Moody black and white color photo.

Digital cameras have a black & white, but more information and details are recorded in color, which also creates an image of higher quality print. That is why we always turn color, then converting the images later. There are several ways to convert an image into black and white using Photoshop and many other programs of image editing. You could just desaturate the colors, but creates an image in shades of black and white and the definition goes further. Levels, curves and unsharp mask can be used creatively with the conversion black and white to provide additional control over the colors and contrasts to create a striking image.

Channel Mixer - I found that the use of Photoshop's Channel Mixer is the best way to convert an image into black and white, and produced the best results. The Channel Mixer you can control the amount of red, green and blue contribute to the final monochrome image.

Mixer channels are selectable from the adjustment layer menu layers palette or you can access from the Image menu.

By clicking on the box to the left entitled monochromatic convert photos on an image to grayscale, and gives you the opportunity to combine red, green and blue. Adjust the sliders to each produce an image of your choice. As a rule to ensure that the total sum for each channel to 100%. This creates monochrome images that are the equivalent of a film shot in black and white through red, green or blue.
