High pressure steel scuba tanks have 228 bar pressure ratings and 100 cubic feet capacity.?
High pressure steel scuba tanks have 228 bar pressure ratings and 100 cubic feet capacity. At standard pressure, how much air is that???
If "no"(or close to none) pressure is applied to the walls of the tank then the quantity of air in Kg can be computed using the standard:
mass = density * volume
mass = 1.2Kg * 100ft^3 = 1.2Kg * 2.83m^3 = 3.396Kg
The pressure is distributed uniformly throughout the container; no adjacent spaces experience any different force exerted on their "walls". Assume that you have a pump which is powerful enough to put air into the tank to the critical pressure of 228bar.
228bar = 228atm, approximation
Use the ideal gas formula:
PV = N*R*T, P is pressure in atms, V is in liters, N is in moles, R is 8.3, T is temperature 293K.
We have all the information except N the number of moles of air, solve for N
100ft^3 = 2830Liters
N = 228 * 2830 / ( 8.3 * 293 ) = 335 moles
1 molecule of oxygen is 16amus, and each amu is 1.66 * 10^(-27) Kg
Each molecule is:
16 * 1.66*10^(-27) Kg
Each mole has
6 * 10^23 molecules
which means
6 * 10^23 * 16 * 1.66*10^(-27) Kg
335 moles in all, so multiply by the number of Kg for each mole:
Total # of Pressurized Kg:
massPressurized= 335 * 6 * 10^23 * 16 * 1.66*10^(-27) Kg = 5.34 Kg
The total # of Kg is the pressurized Kg plus the mass which was already in the tank(not pressing against the walls).
Total Quantity of Oxygen:
massTotal = 3.396Kg + 5.34Kg = 8.736Kg

Great Barrier Reef of Australia is considered one of the most popular dive in the world, diving holiday destination. The Great Barrier Reef is located on the east coast of Australia and is the only living organic collective on earth, they say, visible from outer space.
The Reef of Australia also considered as one of the wonders of the world and was declared world heritage since 1981. It is the largest global ecosystem of coral reefs and to be as large, divers provides a wide variety of sites Dive beautiful and abundant marine life to enjoy.
The Great Barrier Reef more than 300,000 square kilometers (115, 831 square miles) and is home reef more than 3000 small. Decide where in the destination dive diving can be a huge problem indeed fortunate, because many amazing options.
Wreck diving is a favorite activity of scuba diving. Among the many ship wrecks are Captain James Cook in Endeavor. A Another popular wreck is the HMS Pandora, which sank in 1791. In total there are about 30 dive sites wrecks for divers to explore.
Spreading 2 million people visit the reef every year spending a billion dollars collectively and consolidate tourism as the mainstay of the economy Australia. Dollars of tourism is very important, so vital to the Australian economy to protect the reefs and thus destroyed the great reef protected in several ways. As a form of protection, including recreational fishing is limited to certain areas and animals such as dolphins, whales, Dugongs are a protected species.
For the more adventurous divers, there are organized dives to view shark feeding, especially the ferocious man-eater, the great white shark, who leaped to fame in the jaws of film and its sequels. The divers plunged in clear water in steel cages to view these man eating Sharks closed.
Let's take a look at some of the popular dive sites in the Great Barrier Reef: --
Cairns and Port Douglas - This is the area the reef is closer to the coast of Queensland. Because of this proximity to the resorts and accommodations, the region attracts more divers than any other in the Great Barrier Reef. There are some good dive sites here for beginners and for experienced divers.
South of the Coral Sea - Located with crystal clear waters, steep drop offs and fish pelagic diving in the Coral Sea in the south. Colorful soft corals and sea fans, gorgonians are typical features of this dive site.
The Coral Sea is a "must dive" location for divers who get a thrill not brave mixed with sharks menacing.
Southern Great Barrier Reef - This area is the largest part of the Great Barrier Reef. However, since more distant from mainland Australia, is less accessible and diving done here often live aboard cruises. Heron Island and Lady Elliot Island in this part of the barrier Coral offer better accessibility.
If you plan a holiday trip to Australia, why not take a trip to the Great Barrier Reef and snorkelling there?
