Signaling device for Southern homes in the mid 1800's?
I have a signaling device that was located in the kitchen of the Cannon family home in Concord NC. My father received it when he worked there after it was converted into a private school and further renovations were being done. The device is 17in x 10in and is 4in deep. The face of the device has a bell on the top below which is a glass fronted area. That area has the different rooms of the house on it (20) and a indicator to show which room was requesting service. I would like to know what the correct name for this device is and if it has any value - historically or monetarily. The only information available on this is from the top of the plate where the rooms were listed and it is:

a correct name I don't have, my call it was a way to get the servants to come to a room to clean, stoke a fire or deliver tea or coffee or draw a bath. 20 rooms in a house in those days was a good size and they probably had a full staff to wait on family and guests. I would say it is probably worth a chunk of money, I have not been doing antiques for years now but Discovery used to have a site where you could submit a picture and they would ID and give a ball park price. Or you might try price antique and see what pops up. Good luck, and beware someone trying to buy for a dime---see if anything similar is on e bay for sale. Maybe this will help.

The lighting system is composed of automotive lighting and signaling devices are located at the front, rear and side of any vehicle. This is the main function of the light to illuminate the road for the driver especially during the night when visibility is low. A quality set of lights gives us all freedom of movement to venture onto the road, no matter what driving conditions are. Without these lights very crucial, this time on the road will be limited to the short period between sunrise and sunset. Lights also give you the visibility so that other vehicles and pedestrians you see. Another function of light is to serve as warnings or signals for other vehicles of your plan change lanes or direction, turns or parking. These lights are what you call your Pontiac Turn Signal Assembly.
This Pontiac Turn Signal Assembly (sometimes called direction indicators or directional signs, also the direction indicators, flashing) is mounted on the four corners of your Pontiac is used to signal a turn. It is activated by a lever protruding near the steering column. Pushing the lever up or down means a signal to the right or the left and the direction in which the lever must be moved is the same direction the wheel will turn. Outside the United States, it is required that all front, rear and side lights produce light amber, and repeaters that are located on the side are necessary.
