Defense against sharks while scuba diving?
Are there any sure ways to get rid of a shark while scba divng? I carry a knife but I don't want to get that close. Is there some kind of sound making device or something that makes them leave?
I wouldn't worry about sharks unless you are diving in great white territory. The bubbles you give off as you exhale actually spooks sharks. If you see a shark and want to test this theory out grab your octopus and purge it, the bubbles will send them in the other direction. Now its a different story if you are spear fishing since there will be blood in the water, they will become aggressive and possibly turn the situation into a feeding frenzy. I`ve spear fished in tropical waters before without any incidents, but it increases the chances. But if you are just swimming along they wont bother you, they`ll spend too much energy trying to get you. Worse case scenario take your tank off your BCV and keep it between you and the shark, its not edible so they wont do anything.
Just dont get between the Momma and her cub!....oh wait thats for Bears...nevermind lol

You can't kick them while scuba diving...you have fins on, its not like kicking in air, if you kick with fins on you`re going to move from the propulsion of the fins.
