What is the best way to train for a 10 minute or less 450 yard swim?
no fins, mask, snorkel allowed
Swim everyday for a few hours. There is no better way, practice does make perfect. As for no mask, fins, etc. For competitive swimming you don't need any of that. Do a variety of swimming exercises from sprints to longer paced swims. Practice your breathing style. Use a kick board to strenghten your legs.

An underwater world enchanted
A chain of rugged islands virgin reefs, surrounded by rainbows of coral reef reserve is a garden of living coral, caves dug Wheeling seabirds, rare turtles, dugongs and underwater world of magical colors incredible discovery and vitality. The Kiunga Marine National Reserve consists of a chain of 51 coral islands stretching over 2 km Coast reef. They line the continent Dodor and Boni National Reserves. Ranging in size from the islands are composed of old, eroded coral and lower Housing kudu, bushbuck, monkeys, pigs and wild boar.

The reserve is open all year.
