Can i take a gas mask on a plane? Or in a checked bag at the airport?
I am going to nyc and its better to be safe than sorry with the swine flu going around! I was wondering if they would give me any trouble for putting a gas mask in my checked bag.
Before anyone ever heard of this Mexico flu if anyone was coughing and hacking on a flight that flight would still continue on. Now if you cough and hack that aircraft is diverted to the nearest airport.
Keeping things in perspective it was less safe to fly before this Mexico flu became page one every day. Normal, annual regular flu kills around 40,000 people a year in America. Around the world from around 350,000 to a half million people die of the regular flu every year.
In America there has been one death due to this new flu and that person was not a US citizen. For this flu to be as dangerous as the ordinary annual flu we would have to have substantially more deaths around the world,
That is why I think that flying today is safer than flying a month ago. In some airports around the world passengers pass by devices to record their temperature and if you are running a fever you are not even allowed on a plane. Wasn't like this a month ago!
I think an ordinary cloth mask would do just as well and you would not be subject to unnecessary searches and hold ups. Use the hand sanitizer when necessary.
Coincidentally the time period between April 23 and May 20 is also sweeps periods where television stations are gaging how much of the audience is tuning in. "If it bleeds it leads" is a proven method of getting people to tune into the news shows!
So, no gas mask because it looks dumb, attracts unnecessary attention and won't really do anything to help you.
