Diving Snorkeling
can i go snorkeling or diving if i cant swim is it possible?
I am going on a trip to punta cana doinican republic. i cant swim but would like to go scuba diving or snorkeling is that even possible for me? also any other suggestions on what me and my boyfreind could do in june thats when were going ?
I am a PADI Divemaster and Free Diver.
To scuba dive you need a certification of some kind and that will require some swimming skills.
Snorkeling on the other hand can be done on the surface of the water using a flotation device and some swim fins for your feet. I usually recommend purchasing a mask and snorkel to bring along as proper fit is essential to a good experience. Do not wear makeup or suntan lotion or any other lotion on your face when you go out to swim because it will cause your mask to completely flood the entire time.
A good snorkeling mask will cost no less than $45-$50, usually more.
There is a great snorkel for beginners from a company called "Ocean Master". It is completely dry even when you go under water, so it's great for beginners to keep you from having to worry about water in your mouth or clearing a flooded snorkel. Most places that rent equipment will just hand you a mask and snorkel and let you simply deal with whatever happens, so decide how important this experience is and if you want to invest in stuff or just go out once or twice. With the right gear, it's like you can fly. I love it!
