How do scuba divers use the laws and principles that describe the behavior of gases to their advantage? What precautions do they take to prevent the bends?
Because a large volume of air can be compressed into a small volume cylinder, the use of Scuba Gear is popular to those that wish to go diving deep and, for an extended period, maybe for an hour or more depending on the amount of air compressed into the cylinder. The following is based mainly on the Inverse Pressure and Volume, Boyle's Law
At the surface, the atmospheric pressure is 1atm. Absolute or 14.7Psia.
For every 34 feet (10m) of depth below the surface, the pressure increases by 1 atm.
30 meters down the total pressure is 4atm. Absolute (58.8psi).
The Air Regulator of the Scuba system keeps the supply to the diver at a pressure equal to the pressure the diver is at.
His whole body including his blood system is at this pressure.
His body system is therefore under a much higher pressure than at the surface.and the air in his blood system is the same.
When the diver is returning to the surface, he must do so very slowly and breathe normally to allow his body to keep equalising with the decreasing pressure. If he comes up too fast, Nitrogen (and other gases), in solution in the blood forms bubbles in the blood and results in 'The Bends' as the bubbles collect in tissues and joints and build up pressure causing severe pain, cramps and even death. Divers, after long submergence, sometimes have to go into a 'Decompression' chamber to ensure all the high pressure dissolved gases have been eliminated

Why go?
Diving in Cuba has become very popular in recent years, and is easy to see why. The water is warm and crystalline animated underwater fauna and coral reefs excellent state of preservation make it a key destination for divers from Avid.
The large number of sites diving in Cuba is very impressive, too many to explore in a single Cuba diving holiday. Many stakeholders divers return to the island year after year to explore some of the most of the way places. The sites are also a good variation in their level of difficulty, for diving in Cuba is suitable for both beginners and veterans.
Diving in Cuba is big business and there are plenty of companies to choose from, especially around the most popular dive sites. Note that if you have dived before, you must bring your certification card with you. If you are a beginner, many companies offer courses that will get certified in a couple of hours.
When Should I Go?
The rainy season is from May to October, the most popular (and expensive) time to go diving in Cuba is between November and May. A lot of good diving can still be done all year - the average water temperature is a balmy 24 degrees. Note that once every two years or so Cuba experiences a hurricane between August and September along its east coast, so it is worth investigating if a hurricane is expected to arrive before you book your vacation!
Where should I go?
There are dive sites very suitable for Cuba diving holidays around the entire coast of the island but the resort of Cayo Coco is a relief particular. Situated north of the island, a magnificent coral reef is half a mile from the coast and this part of the coast of Cuba is full of tropical fish, which divers much to see underwater. Off the water, Cayo Coco features the finest beaches in Cuba, and the large number of hotels and dive companies set out in this complex means you'll have trouble finding accommodation and diving companies.
Maria la Gorda is equally popular, and is considered one of the best dive sites in Cuba. Located in the midst of a national park, Maria la Gorda provides a more isolated experience of Cayo Coco - there is little here except for natural beauty, some apartments and restaurants, the dive center and some of the best diving on the island. The dive sites are characterized by significant decreases, and vertical walls are littered with with caves and tunnels to explore.
If you prefer to go between diving ship wrecks rather than coral reefs, then Santiago de Cuba is the place to go, as there are a number of well-preserved remains are safe to explore.
How much?
Naturally, the cost of diving in Cuba will change depending on the season and visiting the company you go. Single dives typically cost between $ 25 - $ 50 U.S. states, with discounts available if you buy several dives at the same time. Many companies now offer packages to Cuba diving holiday, including flights, accommodation and diving costs, which can provide good value and saves the hassle of putting everything together separately.
