Depth Gauge

Do you need to adjust your computer for diving at altitude?,How do you adjust a capillary depth gauge?

Questions 4 c and d on the knowledge reviews for altitude diving in adventures in diving,my book isnt updated and says nothing about computers, and Im having trouble understanding the part on the capillary depth gauge.

Computers will flip into Altitude Mode automatically or at least any made in the last 5 years will.
A bit on capillary gauges. The concept of it is an open tube on one end. The air trapped inside is compressed as you dive deeper, by the ambient pressure of the water acting on it, makes that little widget connected to the gizmo turn the dial icon smile Depth Gauge
They operate according to Boyle's law (the volume of a sample of gas is inversely proportional to the pressure applied to the gas if the temperature is kept constant.)
A capillary gauge won't be at all accurate when
diving at altitude - at least as far as actual depth readings go.That's why you adjust for altitude on the RDP.

The gauge will read more than your actual depth. In fact, the
ratio of its reading to your actual depth will be the same as the
ratio of the pressure at sea level to the pressure at the surface
of the lake.

I double-checked the essay on altitude diving at the back of the
PADI AOW manual. In a nutshell, it recommends scaling actual depths
up by the above pressure ratio to get a "theoretical depth" which
you'd then use in the tables in place of your actual depth. As it
turns out, a capillary gauge does this same scaling automatically!

Of course, you'd still need your regular depth gauge (or computer)
if you wanted to know exactly how deep you are. You couldn't use
its reading to determine no-decompression limits, though. But even
if you used only your computer , a capillary gauge
and tables would make a cheap backup that also adjusts.
Good luck in the AOW!

Why bother to control tire tread depth? Tire tread is what keeps your tires on the road. When driving in rain or snow, the tread is designed to shed water or snow out from under the tires so they do not lose control of the vehicle due to landslide problems or traction others. Consult your tread depth every 6,000 to 8,000 kilometers. This can alert you of tire wear and tire damage. You you can check your tire tread depth by using a tread depth gauge for a more accurate measurement or can perform a quick check using a penny.

The first and most reliable method is to use a depth gauge tire tread. Once you have obtained a band of tread depth gauge, follow the instructions to get the product ready for the meter. You should check the tread in various parts of outer edge of the rim, center, opposite to the outer edge of the rim for a general reading. The tread depth should be 2/32-inch or more. If you live in areas where snow is common and often lead down paths that tend to congregate in standing water during the rain you might want to consider the possibility of more to tread help move the tires through rain or snow.

The second way to check tire tread depth is through the use of a penny. Yes, a penny copper is likely to be out there somewhere! Although not as reliable as the tread gauge depth, a penny will give a good estimate of its tread. How so? Well, the distance from the top of the head of Abraham Lincoln to edge of the coin .. I suppose you! 2/32-inch. To check tread depth of the coin, keep the coin with the thumb and index finger with Abe's head backwards. Insert the coin into the grooves between the tread and make sure you have Abe's head down and facing you. If the band is covering a portion of your head then it is likely that the tread is still good. However, if anyone in the area above his head visible is probably time to replace your tires. If you are sure you could always check with a tread gauge or seek advice from a qualified mechanic.

If you have a tire to be replaced is to replace all tires at once. You should avoid buying a tire at a time because if you do, all the tires will be different stages of wear. Also, be sure to check the tire pressure frequently. excessive inflation can cause your tires wear out quickly in central and inflation can cause rapid wear on the outer edges of the rim. Wheels that are out of balance or need adjustment will also occur unnecessary wear on the tires. If you have questions about the cause of tire wear, you should seek advice from a qualified mechanic.
