Redang Island, Pulau Redang is called in the local language, is located 45 km offshore of Terengganu, a state in the north-eastern peninsula of Malaysia. The size of the island, about 7 km long and 6 meters wide, is low. Together with other islands, Pulau Pinang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Susu Dara, Pulau Lang Tengah and Pulau Kapas, this group of islands that form the Pulau Redang Marine Park, which is wonderful abundant marine fish, turtles and coral reef offers great snorkelling and diving experience. There are over 500 species of live coral, 1000 species invertebrates and almost 3000 species of fish, including manta rays, rays, sharks and whale sharks, all living harmoniously in the reefs fringing islands.
Redang Island is famous for its white sand beaches, Crystal clear blue sea, brilliant underwater world has one of the best coral reefs in the world. With over 20 different dive sites, is a haven of peace for the and amateur photographers of scuba diving. Some of them are black coral gardens, shipwrecks near Pinang Island, a subterranean chamber, mysterious and Mini Mount.
Redang season Diving begins around March and lasts until early October. The daily temperature ranges from 22 º C night at 34oC at noon. Visibiity average is 15 meters. On good days, you can give up to 30 meters. Some of the favorite dive sites are:
Monte Major
Located approximately 50 to 100 meters from the northern tip of Pulau Lima, Big attachment is completely submerged oval Mountains submarines. This is probably the best dive sites all around the island, with a pillar coral, larger and more popular with divers region .. The most superficial part of the reef at 20 meters and drops to Earth Rock 30 meters and is filled with many varieties of hard and soft corals, gorgonian fans, anemones and sea whip coral gardens. Divers can expect to encounter enormous clown-fish, cucumbers sea, starfish, stonefish, groupers, parrot fish.
Mini Monte.
100 meters east to the outside Kerengga Pulau Besar, with the deepest at about 20 meters. The surface rocks are covered with a variety of soft corals, coral Tubastrea, syringes sea sponges and stinging hydroids. In addition, various can see here a unique blend of sponges, shrimp, molluscs, echinoderms and soft corals. It is a popular choice for the night dive, where divers are rewarded with an abundance of creatures of the night to foraging around the reef.
Terumbu Kili
Located at the southern tip of Pulau Pinang is one of the best sites Diving in Redang. The seascape is encrusted with rock hard corals and soft, about 15 meters, 20 meters down the sand. The fish life include the cardinal fish, damselfish, Chromis, snapper, parrot fish and soldierfish. While in open water will likely find cats Rifles, yellow, batfish and sharks black tip. Due to strong currents, this site is better left to more advanced divers with experience you can get washed the sea, if not you worry.
The waters around Pulau Redang also contain two historic shipwrecks: The HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse, cast by early World War II.
