Air Nitrox
Air Nitrox
why do you need to have your cylinders cleaned after use with air before nitrox?
Why is ti that you need to have your cylinders cleaned before using with nitrox? What is being cleaned out of it? Also, do you need your gear cleaned before use with trimix?
The higher % by volume of oxygen in a nitrox fill is th ereason behind the need to clean the tank and regs. Any hydrocarbons in either will increase the possibility of a fire or even an explosion should they come into contact with that higher O2 while filling. There's a lot of heat generated and you're giving a potential fire some fuel with that higher O2.
One thing I'd like to correct regarding the previous poster's answer and tri mix. They're hypoxic mixes almost exclusively. Less O2..not more. No need to oxygen clean.
Edit: I did put "almost exclusively" in my answer. The cost is just not worth it for a shallow dive if air can do. Everyone around here must be old school too, because you'll be laughed off the boat with a tri mix on a 130 foot dive.

The Suunto Gekko is one of the most popular scuba diving equipment in the UK, especially among novice divers. This is because it offers everything a diver needs basic and quite cheap.
Gekko On Screen Display
When diving Suunto Gekko shows you all the vital information you need - by default the Gekko shows its current depth, maximum depth for diving, the current temperature and other no-deco time - time you can go for diving without a stopover decompression. These are displayed numerically and are very easy to read. Also see the ascent rate as a color code bar on the side of the screen that is useful for beginners.
Alarms and Beacons Suunto Gekko
The Suunto Gekko does not come with a backlight, but has a phosphorescent screen that can be carry a dive torch to illuminate the screen during a dark dive - This saves the battery drain would backlight, but also requires you have a diving torch (though in a dark dive, you must have one anyway). As for the alarms alarms go, the Gekko has visual and audible when necessary, and also allows you to activate the alarms maximum depth and maximum time if desired.
Information stored diving and PC interface
Unlike of many teams these days scuba diving the Suunto Gekko does not offer a PC interface to download the dive information. It does however, store 50 hours of dive profile data including dive start time and date, total immersion time, the maximum depth and temperature at maximum depth -- this is all you need to complete your log book. As an added bonus also stores other information in the shorter format - for example, its maximum ever depth is also stored.
Nitrox in Gekko
The Suunto Gekko is compatible with Nitrox in the same way as most other scuba diving equipment do, for the treatment of air, nitrox 21%. The Gekko uses the Suunto RGBM - a state of the art algorithm for the management of gases dissolved and free gas at all stages in the tissues and blood of divers - in plain English is safe and can trust him! To switch to Nitrox is easy - the Gekko has two modes (air / Nitrox) which can be easily changed.
Ease of use of the Gekko
Perhaps the main reason why Suunto Gekko is so popular is that it is easy to use - basically you can forget how to use it and concentrate on actually using it. Suunto have equipped the Gekko with user replaceable batteries which saves shipping Gekko of return from time to time. The batteries are easy to change - you just have to unscrew a lid, then replace a ring and the battery, then screw Roof system - see a video showing how to change the battery Suunto Gekko.
Suunto Gekko - Summary
The Suunto Gekko is ideal for any diver not require a PC interface or simulation features diving. You can buy the Suunto Gekko in the model of the wrist or mounted console with a Suunto console. Than goes directly to recreational divers who intends to use Nitrox, but not willing to pay more for gas switching teams - most of the divers scuba, in fact, could actually save money by choosing the Suunto Gekko!
