why do you need to have your cylinders cleaned after use with air before nitrox?

Why is ti that you need to have your cylinders cleaned before using with nitrox? What is being cleaned out of it? Also, do you need your gear cleaned before use with trimix?

The higher % by volume of oxygen in a nitrox fill is th ereason behind the need to clean the tank and regs. Any hydrocarbons in either will increase the possibility of a fire or even an explosion should they come into contact with that higher O2 while filling. There's a lot of heat generated and you're giving a potential fire some fuel with that higher O2.
One thing I'd like to correct regarding the previous poster's answer and tri mix. They're hypoxic mixes almost exclusively. Less O2..not more. No need to oxygen clean.
Edit: I did put "almost exclusively" in my answer. The cost is just not worth it for a shallow dive if air can do. Everyone around here must be old school too, because you'll be laughed off the boat with a tri mix on a 130 foot dive.

The Suunto Gekko is one of the most popular scuba diving equipment in the UK, especially among novice divers. This is because it offers everything a diver needs basic and quite cheap.

Gekko On Screen Display
When diving Suunto Gekko shows you all the vital information you need - by default the Gekko shows its current depth, maximum depth for diving, the current temperature and other no-deco time - time you can go for diving without a stopover decompression. These are displayed numerically and are very easy to read. Also see the ascent rate as a color code bar on the side of the screen that is useful for beginners.

Alarms and Beacons Suunto Gekko

Nitrox in Gekko
The Suunto Gekko is compatible with Nitrox in the same way as most other scuba diving equipment do, for the treatment of air, nitrox 21%. The Gekko uses the Suunto RGBM - a state of the art algorithm for the management of gases dissolved and free gas at all stages in the tissues and blood of divers - in plain English is safe and can trust him! Dive Gauge

Hello, I need a console (pressure and depth gauges), where the scuba diving equipment (Smart z with sender).?

I am a novice open water diver (17 dives) and have had no experience with diving computers like to know if I need a backup for the team.

If you read the manual to the computer that will tell you that "this device is only a guide and not a replacement for appropriate dive tables. That makes the cost of appearing a bit high! BUT (and instructor), I would recommend that you always dive with a meter and see even if you have a computer. If one falls, the other is with you (although I've never had a team go wrong in a dive). I found that as my break is over adventurers began to depend less on the guide decompression in the computer and started planning my own Deco more - this made my computer a very expensive diving watch. The A very nice feature of computers monitor is the rate of ascent.

What use would SCUBA do me?

I'm a 11B with the 82nd Airborne. I have a civilian certification as a Scuba Dive Master. (I lived in Florida in my youth) What units are eligible to go to US Army Combat Divers Course in Key West? What units have dive teams?

With a civilian diving certification, you can't use it in the Military.

The only ones allowed to go to the combat divers course are Special Forces.
Green Berets. some rangers.

and then you have Army Divers. you could try to transition to that, but being a civilian diver, wont really help.

and if you want to get a diving job, dont do it from the Military.
From what a commercial civilian diver contractor told to me was that, he always hires civilians with civilian training over military training, because although the Military trains it divers great, there is a big difference between military and civilian diving.

but to answer your question. Having a Civilian Certification for Scuba will do nothing.
that only helps in the civ world.
and only spec ops go to combat divers course.

if you want a civilian scuba job in the future, just keep on working on getting more civilian scuba training.

One sunny morning in September while returning from diving in crystal clear water of Mauritius. I received a call for help in VHF marine radio. At the end of the net mass fart fried whale and then dragging behind. But does not change. I know that we need to be attached to the whale and take it all in one place. My dive team and ready. donned masks and snorkels fin. We have seen dotted with swing. White polystyrene 'buoys fart fried and then the tail whales. This net mass of rope and buoys. Yes it is true. A whale willy is very big, and it takes two divers just to hold it steady. The third then has to use the jumbo scissors, whilst the fourth holds on to the excess skin, so that it does not get in the way.

Since man began scratching pictures on the walls of his cave to describe their daily lives, there has been a continuous record of its attempt to explore and exploit the sea. We find references to man's propensities as a diver in the historical period of early man until today. The man's culture has, of course, been strongly influenced by his adventures above and below the surface of the sea.

First, you need to learn the basic equipment and the reasons for its use. It is axiomatic say that mastery of the skills used in skin diving is fundamental. The basic equipment used by Scuba Diver skin and consists mainly of three elements, mask, fins and snorkel. We will deal with each in turn.

MASK - Purpose

The mask is used to provide an air space between the eye and water. The eye of man is a very imperfect body when exposed directly to water. However, when air enters the space between the eye and the water, the functions of the eye normal. Due to the refraction of water, objects seen through the mask under water will be magnified by approximately 25 percent.

MASK - Fit

The mask should fit snugly but not so tightly that it is uncomfortable. A good method of checking the fit of the mask is to put in place, do not use the band head, a breath through your nose, and withdraw the hand. If the mask fits properly, the mask will remain in force until the small void that was created is released. If the mask leaks air around the face, also leak. Selecting the appropriate mask is a purely individual, due to different contours of the face, and taste.

FINS - Purpose

The purpose of the fins is to increase the surface area or foot propulsion, allowing the diver to significantly increase its thrust without an increase equal to the effort.

FINS - Usage

When the order is placed on the foot she and the foot should be moist. The foot should be thrust well forward, and then the heel or strap (depending on what type of fin is used.) Extended to the heel, both in the same way that puts on a pair of rubbers.

SNORKEL - Purpose

The snorkel has two main purposes, therefore of primary importance for skin diving. The purpose of the snorkel is to enable the diver to breathe without the need to operate it in the head above the surface. This is significant tremendous for the diver. The skin diver is what allowed to lie in the water, tied his face below the surface, exploring the background.

The main objective second snorkel is like a piece of emergency equipment. Obviously, if a diver is able to be in a prone position, without lifting his head so that air is much more relaxed and rested. Their resilience in emergency situations has expanded the use of snorkeling.

SNORKEL - Usage

As mentioned above, The purpose of the snorkel is to enable the diver to breathe while your face is under water. Therefore, the nozzle is held in the mouth of the diver, while the rectum "mother" of the J band is placed between the diving mask and head. At the dive, the diver's breath is held against the tube.

After surface, divers head back to the horizontal, with the open end of the tube projects above the surface. The diver exhales through the tube with a short beep, sharp, much as if you were using a bean-shooter, so the drain pipe that allows water and start breathing normally through the mouth. The optimal duration of the snorkel is in the neighborhood of 13 inches from the nozzle into the open end of the J.

Once you have this basic equipment, it's time to start diving.

Knife Set
When you buy a knife set, how do you know what knife is for what?

I bought a knife set in the butcher block, and I really don't know which knife is for what. There are no instructions, and I'm clueless.

The smaller ones are probably steak knives. The big one with the pointy tip is probably for carving, the similarly big one with the blunt tip is probably a bread knife. I know what you mean though. My general plan is, if the one I pick up is cutting whatever it is I'm trying to cut, it's good.

Does everyone have the use of having a kitchen knife set? The answer is yes. Even for those who keep cooking simple, the answer is yes. Of course, a fancy gourmet knife covered with exquisite may not be in the plans of each, but a kitchen knife base established with knives which are used less frequently, but occasionally could be an ideal candidate for any home. To fill the need of having to use knives or utensils used rarely be used to supplement frequently used a table knife, forks and spoons. Therefore, a basic set of kitchen knives is to anyone to have. Even a gourmet knife set is a bargain for cooks who simply consider themselves as non-gourmet gurus. Therefore, a knife cheap kitchen set that gets the job done for eating and cooking convenience is a good gift for any home or apartment.

Where can I find out if someone is really a certified scuba diver?

Is there a place to check if someone really is certified scuba diver? Is there a web site? Who keeps track of the certifications? Thanks
There is a guy that wants to dive with us says he is certified but I don't think he is. We did ask for card said he lost it, getting a new one. Everyone else thinks I am over reacting. I think if he is not its putting everyone at risk.
