There are many diving classes being offered in New York. If you are considering taking one, you may want to know first several requirements. Before going to class diving diving, Make sure you have the following:

Interesting - while classes can be completed in a few days, training and obtain certification require some homework. Most diving schools in New York require their students to complete their tasks, including reading materials, videos and reviews. If you interest not only could give up and waste time and money.

Scuba diving equipment - you could rent, of course. But if you want to do diving on a regular part of their recreation, rather than first gear. This is not a requirement, however. Most schools only require students to wear a mask, snorkel and fins. They provide the remainder of the fishing gear.

Seal Scuba

Which is best on a swimming/scuba mask; a rubber or vinyl seal/skirt?

I'm looking to buy a scuba mask for my upcoming holiday, I've found one that's pretty good but I have the choice of a rubber or vinyl seal/skirt.

Are you sure that one of those options isn't silicone? That's usually what a good mask's skirt is made of. Rubber and vinyl both break down under sun exposure fairly quickly as compared to silicone. Rubber or vinyl also eventually crack in that process. Silicone just discolours.
If those two choices were the only two available, I'd opt for the rubber ( I've never heard of vinyl being used) since it would be more flexible and offer a better fit.

Scuba wet suits were not taken seriously until World War II and the advent of Navy Frogmen (seals) which became one of the most effective weapons United States of war. In any kind of measurable basis, costs of operations versus costs of effectiveness, man to man, or overall kill ratios, seals exceeded expectations on any level. Once recognized, the military put a lot of time and money in improving the effectiveness of its frogmen. This meant improving the design, The effectiveness and durability of wet suits.

There is a controversy that developed at the time about whether or not wet suits had to remain dry. Sounds like a set for a joke, but it is not. All wetsuits under water are called protective rubber suits. The controversy was over whether the loss of body heat the diver could be controlled better if the wetsuit keeps the skin dry or not. It was Hugh Bradner who is credited with the first wetsuit in 1952. Mr. Bradner was actually working as a physicist at the Radiation Laboratory at Berkeley, where he was testing the reflexes of shock waves on unicellular material and was invited to attend a symposium swimmer. His idea was that the diver's skin does not have to be dry to prevent heat loss if the thermal insulation used in the wet suit was obtained by the air trapped in the material of the suit.

With the French invention of the Aqua-Lung, Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) was used in war and was then translated into research teams to explore many mysteries of the ocean. As soon as this started, the urgent need to dress it became painfully obvious divers suffering from hypothermia after only a few jumps. The divers tried everything from greased long johns to survival suits remains of Air Force, and the Bradner wet suit. Bradner was the first to use a unicellular material similar to the guy who was working at the Radiation Laboratory in her wet suit. The material came from a company called Rubatex and was called Neoprene and the original model for today's high-tech, three-level wet suit was born

Snorkel Fins Set

I need a look that will set me apart in the singles bars. Would wearing lederhosen, snorkel and fins work?

Nothing too over the top, just something that will make me seem more interesting.

Well, I can only speak from experience. Living in the LA area I have seen this approach used many times. I am a bit ashamed to say that I even did it myself. But, as all things, it became passe.

The sooooo obvious connection to muff diving was quickly replaced by other forms of male fluffery.

I have had quite a success ratio with a simple thong, accessorized with Roman style sandals, a bit of sparkle in my skin lotion, and Mick Jagger inflated lips.

But I only go to the straight bars. The other type, in your area anyway, may well appreciate your style. The snorkel is a nice, if maybe too phallic, addition to you wardrobe.

Dive Diving Snorkeling

Where can I scuba dive or snorkel in Singapore?

Is there a place in SIngapore where I can take scuba diving lessons? Or go snorkeling?
I just moved here a month ago and looking for some fun activities... Any suggestions beyond the above mentioned ones will be highly appreciated!

I am not sure if there is any good place for diving or snorkeling in Singapore. Sentosa island is quite a disappointment for me, rather artificial.

I would suggest get out of Singapore and fly (or drive or catch bus/train) to Malaysia. I think the closest diving/snorkeling spot from Singapore is Tioman island, not too far from Johor Bahru (in case you don't realize, it is only 5 hours bus ride from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, and going to Johor is doable by regular public transport). Beautiful island, and they have diving school and of course people who can take you out for snorkeling and diving. It also has some beautiful snorkeling spots just off the beach. If you do go there, try ABC village. I had a wonderful time there.

Other beautiful places for diving and snorkeling are Redang island and Perhentian island. But they are both in the northern part of Malaysia. Enjoy!

When traveling to Akumal Mexico one nearly passes this small quiet village by without knowing it is actually one of the best places in the Caribbean coast for diving and snorkeling in the Yucatan Peninsula. Akumal is located just 65 miles south of the Hotel Zone of Cancun and 50 kilometers from the airport Mexico. It may be small, but it is the ideal holiday for families or divers who wish to leave to escape the daily grind often crowded beaches Mexico. i saw this ace documentary ages ago done by a guy with an eye patch about weird freaky creatures in the ocean, about myths and legends related to them too. it was ace and the guy even kept his eye patch on when he dived!anyone know his name? i think his eye patch was fake, a gimmick, but i was a sucker for it!
i cant really go into any more detail, not many documentary makers have an eyepatch!you'd remember him if you saw him!
